I tend to read biographies or historical books myself, more interesting to me than fiction. No harm in that, you should maybe go into a book shop and read different genres until you find something that holds your attention. Reading Atomized at the minute which is quite brutal and some draft stuff from Nassim Taleb about anti-fragility. Me I can read them but really struggle to been interested been a few years I last read one now.
Ignore what your wife is reading. Ask some mates who have similar tastes in films or music what books they have really enjoyed and see if you get on with those instead. Few people worry about not reading poetry, for example. Books really are ace. I really struggle to understand how anyone can not like reading a novel. I read and write all day at work as an academic. Ever since i started doing this all day everyday during my PhD I found reading books really difficult. I go through phases of reading stuff but I get half way something through and give up.
My smartphone has pretty much guaranteed that books will never get a look-in in the future. Well, a few thousand, probbly. I used to read like crazy as a kid. Had the reading age of an adult by the time I was 8. Got to about my mid-teens, then just went off reading almost altogether. Got into images instead I spose. Much happier looking at pics than reading text. Some are better suited to written language, others to images.
At some point my brain switched from one to the other. All good though. The plot of this book revolves around Lena, who is pretty much in love with her best friend Sebastian who is damn hot by the way and is also hiding a huge truth from him. She is scared that if she reveals her secret, then everyone, including Sebastian, will end up hating her. I personally found the book an easy and refreshing read. Not to mention, I was going through a terrible reading slump when I picked this book, and it helped.
First of all, Elizabeth Gilbert is a badass. I love all her books, but this one is a bit too close to my heart.
Eat Pray Love is a memoir wherein Elizabeth shares her story of exploring herself while searching for everything across Italy, India, and Indonesia. After being unhappy in her marriage and fighting pretty hard to get a divorce from her husband, she takes a trip around the world to discover new possibilities.
I loved how honest she was throughout the book. She shares every bit of her vulnerabilities and heartbreaks. So, if you are looking for an intense read, wherein you can explore emotions such as heartbreaks and healing, then this book is a must-read for you.
And since you are anyway bored then why not start reading it right now! I hope these recommendations excited you enough to pick these books and read them.
